Frankfort is a full-service City and offers to its citizens a complete range of services. We cooperate with numerous civic and neighborhood groups to enhance the quality of life of all citizens. City Hall is located at 315 West Second Street in downtown Frankfort. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Our mailing address is P.O. The City employs 300 regular full-time employees who work hard every day to ensure Frankfort remains the community of choice for its residents as a wonderful place to live, work, play, and visit. The primary responsibility of the Finance Department is the receipt of revenues and disbursement of expenditures. Sanitation - Solid Waste/Recycling/Yard Waste/Appliance Pick-up Schedules Transit Division/Schedule Planning and Building Codes The Planning & Building Codes Department functions to serve the citizens and visitors of the City of Frankfort. We are located in City Hall at 315 West Second Street, left entrance at front of building. The Planning staff is responsible for determining immediate and long-term land use patterns through administration of the zoning ordinance and the Comprehensive Plan, which provides the overall growth management framework to guide and shape the community's development. Additionally, the staff provides technical services and advice to property owners and developers, and maintains a record of developmental programs and projects. The City's three historic districts fall within the realm of the staff's review. Visit the Planning and Building Section... Frankfort's first wastewater treatment plant was originally constructed in 1955-57 with grit removal, primary settling basins, a sludge thickener and two-stage anaerobic digestion with sludge drying beds. Chlorine was used for disinfection prior to discharge into the Kentucky River. In 1978-80, a new secondary activated sludge "oxidation ditch" type wastewater treatment plant was constructed and the disinfection process was changed to Ozone, which is more efficient and environmentally safe.
